There is something for everyone at Dunnet Forest. Your forest has a family zone, quiet zone and active zone. There are short walks and long walks, all ability paths, a horse trail and mountain bike technical trail. Get out and explore!
The project was conceived in 2009 and after obtaining planning permission in 2011, the log cabin was built in 2012. It was built as part of a course instructing 10 students and run by Dan Franklin and two assistants of the British Isles School of Log Building.
The forest is home to numerous wood carvings and sculptures. Explore the maze of paths and you never know what you may find!
For your own safety, please do NOT enter the forest in the event of a storm or in the immediate aftermath, because there is a high risk of snapped and windthrown trees.
NEVER start a fire whatever the time of year.
NEVER climb on log piles. Logs are heavy and when disturbed will move and roll.
We are a working forest so be aware of vehicles and machinery moving around the forest.
Avoid areas where you can hear chainsaws, the woodchipper or other machinery being operated.
Never walk through warning signs, cones or taped off paths. They are there for YOUR safety.
